Findus vom Wolfsberg or "Finn" is a male German import that was brought into the country during the summer of 2006.  His color is referred to as Red, or Rehrot, in German.  He was born April 27th, 2006.  Finn came from Wolfsberg Kennels in Kassel, Germany.  Dr. Helga Adolph was the breeder and is a VDW judge as well as Breed Warden for Hessen.  Wolfsberg Kennels was established in 1994.

Findus's hips and elbows have been xrayed and are prelimed throught OFA, measured by Penn Hip, and I am still waiting for Germany's verification through the VDW (wachtelhund breed club). Findus is available to qualified breedings, see Breedings for more info.

While looking for a pup to import, I used the following criteria: reputation of breeder, quality of scores on hunting tests, and the quality of hips.  I followed up on breedings that were good to excellent or excellent to excellent.  Both of Finn's parents had excellent hips.  The Germans use this system to express the qualities of a given pup by the ratings of past decedents.  Here is how Finn scored with a simple explanation.

This is Dr. Adolph being quoted from an email to me:
"Have you heard about dog-base? This is a program for breeder in Germany.  The complete Wachtelhund-generations are in this program since 1978.  The tests and the HD-rate of the dogs are calculated and coupled with a mathematical art on the value of 100 Points (z-Transformation). It is the same mathematical art like the calculating of intelligence of people: 100 Points are the middle, more than 100 points are good to very good intelligence, less than 100 Points are not so good. I hope you can understand me.  Only the value of HD must be less than 100 Points!!  When you are looking in the middle of the "Ahnentafel" X, you find a value, called ZW. This means the breeding-value of the new dog. You see the following numbers:
 84  103  100  111  113  103 (these are Finn's scores)
This means:
84: HD-Value, is less than 100, also very very good for the new dog!
103: The value of the nose, more than 100, also good!
100: The value of the noise (barking on the track), exact 100, is good, because the dog is not so noisy!
111: The value of will to follow a track, is much more than 100, also very, very good!
113: The value for searching, is much more than 100, also very very good!
103: The value to tolerate the shot-noise, is also good!

You see this values till the third generation and you can have a look to very good and not so good values of mother, father, grandmothers and  grandfathers. This is very important for the breeders to have a look on this "breeder-planning"."

Juri vom Hahnenkamm & Amelie vom Wolfsberg
Info on Findus's parents: Dr. Adolph states: "Both dogs, Amelie and Juri, are very good in performance and efficient in searching for any kind of deer and especially boars, we called it "Stöbern".  They are also very efficient on blood-trail and retrieving."
"Juri looks very good, he gets on the examination the best grade in confirmation. Juri has done very well on all hunt tests and also his brothers and sisters. Juri has a grade in hunting boars (we called it performance with boars: "S"), therefore he is very sharp, but he also retrieves, he is going on blood-trails and so on. He is a very calm dog, not nervous."
"Amelie has also a very good grade in confirmation.  Amelia is a very good hunting dog, very sharp especially with cats and the little bear (with the stripes, in USA there are very often such bears!)(Raccoons).
She also hunting very good boars, but not so riskily. She has very good hunt tests and is a good mother to her puppies."

We have enjoyed having Finn very much. He is a beautiful dog with an awesome personality! We are looking forward to training and developing this dog into a hunting machine.  Stay tuned as photos will be added as time allows!
